A small group of Sand Painter officers and willing members met at the end of December to do some pre-planning for the 2010 Sand Painters Art Club. We will meet at the scheduled meeting in January to complete, finalize, and approve the calendar of events. So far the plan for the year has many of the tried and true events and some new twists on events. We have worked hard to make exciting and motivating gatherings and challenges for members of any mediums to express themselves. And many opportunities for your art projects to be displayed.

Hey all---get a sketchbook--any sketchbook---and get ready to use it this year. Carry it with you at all times and have some fun drawing supplies to go with. A ziplock bag works really well to hold supplies. Upcoming will be an Internet link to ideas for sketchbook/journal entries. (The sketchbooks can be very simple and inexpensive or more elaborate---you decide.)

---if you need a sketch/field bag for you or for a youth---check out this great idea---recycling a pair of jeans. Neat idea.

Talking about sketch books or journals, Pat found the neatest one in the book store in Valentine. Had a wonderful deep blue background with a cat lying around the magnetic clasp, lots of texture and shimmer. Now that should make you want to draw or write.

Most of you have heard me talk about my experiences with Watercolor in the Black Hills...it is open to any medium this year. It is June 14-18th. Pat will post information on this web site as a link. Please share the invitation to anyone you think would be interested. I have never had a more fulfilling artistic experience than this. I call it my retreat. I will email more information if requested. My wish is that everyone have a piece of this experience.

I want to thank those of you who stopped into Janine's during the Bull Bash to check out my progress on my caricature drawings. I had a fun day---and am still learning. Right now --any face I see--I wonder how I would draw it in as a caricature.

For everyone who put art in the Moo Neigh art show, helped to set up/take down, and who helped with the reception during the Bull Bash...It all looked great and was a wonderful addition to the Bull Bash.

Great Sand Painter's gathering tonight. Anita's art activity to paint with acrylics on photographs was amazing. Just remember to seal the photo---I used a spray acrylic varnish and I printed my photos on card stock. What great fun. Those of you who missed out---just try it.

just a tidbit of information before i forget. the library will be doning a major revivation this summer and it may and probably will cause us to lose the meeting room for the months of june, july, august. don't know exactly when they will have to move all the books into the meeting room. just be aware of this. we will go one as scheduled and Anne will call me - and i can have the show down in that day. it will not affect our anac selection show. they are replacing windows.

Looks like another great opportunity in a beautiful and interesting location, for anyone who might be interested. Perhaps most of you have seen it already.

If you are hanging art that is not framed you may consider something like this for hanging. Just need to make sure the hole is big enough for the hangers in the Valentine library. I am using them for my student's art and they are amazing, easy, and cheap. And yes they are strong--held 12 x14 canvas panels.
