Schemmer Studios is a full fine arts studio with capabilities in ceramics, photography, painting, pastels, glass beading and mono printing studios.
Schemmer specializes in creating one of a kind fine art raku vessels, tile murals, urns and sculptures from stoneware and earthenware clays.
After a 6 year service in the U.S. Army making orthotics and prosthetics, Pat decided on a college degree in the arts. Her enthusiasm for clay didn’t start until a college friend gave her some clay to play with. “It was love at first touch.” In 1985, she graduated with a BFA in Ceramics from San Jose State University in California. About her own work, she writes:
“My goal is to create art that evokes a response from today’s viewer. I strive to help others see objects that they might not necessarily look at on their own. It is my hope that my art will serve to preserve small snap shots of our society and environment. That is my contribution to this time and place.
The majority of my clay work is produced with the enchantment of post firing reduction/ raku. The dance between the artist and fire is always exciting, creating endless magic. Opening the reduction barrel is just like Christmas, it’s always a surprise.
Carved shallow relief sculptures and pictorial tile projects are composed with stoneware for versatility and durability. These artworks will be here forever. Clay is the oldest and longest lasting of all Medias and will preserve an image of our way of life for future generations to view.
My ability to create and see objects in a unique way is a gift. I strive to share my experiences through the language of visual arts: ceramic sculpture, photography, printmaking and painting. The knowledge one accumulates while creating art should be shared in as many ways as possible. Through my art works and teaching, I can only hope to inspire the soul and enlighten the mind—this truly would be the greatest success and legacy I could hope to achieve.”
Her award winning art work is shown in many galleries throughout the state. Awards include the prestigious Association of Nebraska Art Clubs [ANAC] Purchase Award to the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney, many Best of Shows and Certificates of Excellence. As an active member of the local Sand Painters Art Club and Signature Member of ANAC, Schemmer is the two time recipient of the ANAC Artist’s Award for promotion and support of the visual arts locally and statewide.
Patricia has been a member of Impact Nebraska Artists since 2017. Impact is a juried group of nationally recognized artists living in Nebraska. Facebook: impact Nebraska Artists web page: https://impactart-ne.org
Artworks are available at The Plains Trading Company, Valentine, NE.; Prairie Rose Art Gallery above Janine's Flower Exchange, Valentine, NE.; Thedford Art Gallery, NE. and Wild Rose Gallery, Broken Bow, NE.
