Schemmer Studios, located just outside Valentine, Nebraska at Chaduza Acres, is a full ceramics studio - creating one of a kind fine art raku vessels, low fire salt sculpture, functional dinner cooking ware and tile murals by hand from stoneware and earthenware clays. Commissions are welcomed.
The rural setting of Valentine allows me to enjoy all of God's creations. The wildlife, flora and fauna are reflected in the aspects of my art. The small organic objects, what most walk over every day and never see, are recreated in my sculptures.
My studios also provide an artistic environment for the surrounding small schools to come to and create works in clay. Workshops are available in low fire ceramic techniques, photography of art and the incorporation of art in other subjects.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Hawarden, Iowa in 1955, I received my first art award in Kindergarten from the local Women's Club. In 1970, I was the first female annual staff photographer and graduated from West Sioux High School in 1974.
I served in the U.S. Army from 1974-1978 as an Orthotist/Prosthetist in San Francisco and Honolulu where I learned technical skills in metal, plastics, leather and plaster. Here my photography continued to mature and helped to support me while in art school.
In 1985, I graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Ceramics. Having studied under the students from the Soldner/Volumes school of ceramics, most of my works are raku (post fire reduction).
